A famous textbook for the theory of linear algebraic groups with preliminaries. It is also useful as a reference for structure theorem of reductive groups (Chapter 9).
I remember that my advisor, Yoichi, recommended this book to me when I asked how to start learning representation theory of reductive groups.

A careful account of the foundations of Langlands's spectral decomposition theorem, and excellent preparation for reading Arthur's papers on the trace formula.
After reading Godement–Jacquet, I began reading this book on Yoichi's recommendation to learn the general theory of automorphic forms. I found some parts difficult and emailed Waldspurger with questions. I fondly remember how kindly he replied with detailed explanations written in LaTeX.
